Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Police mentioned they were alerted by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior official stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
